Russian is one of the largest languages in the world and the largest cultural language in Europe, it is the language of the largest country in the world, Russia. Russian uses a variant of the Cyrillic alphabet. That is a very old alphabet, invented in the 9th century by the missionaries Cyrilius and Methodius when they wanted to bring Christianity to the Slavic peoples. The current form dates from 1918.
